Some homes are built with gable vents when applicable.
Without eve (soffet) vents attic air is still stagnant (air does not move and heats up).








Adding vents at the eaves is necessary to provide good air flow within the attic.
Eave vents pull in outside air to cool the heat the sun has generated in your attic.
Even on that 100 degree day it is still cooler air than the 170-180 degree attic air.
